Ella had always imagined love would be simple — two hearts drawn together, a spark, a promise, and a future. But after a few painful lessons, she realized something deeper: feelings alone were never meant to guide her; faith was.
So one evening, she sat on her porch with her Bible open, praying the same prayer Solomon once prayed:
“Lord, give me wisdom.”
Not just wisdom to choose a partner, but wisdom to see people clearly — beyond charm, beyond chemistry, beyond the surface.

What Qualities Matter Most
Ella began to study Scripture with fresh eyes. She noticed that God never told His people to look for beauty, status, or excitement. Instead, He highlighted qualities like:
- Character — “A righteous man walks in integrity.”
- Kindness — “Love is patient, love is kind.”
- Spiritual maturity — “Two cannot walk together unless they agree.”
- Self-control — “Better a patient person than a warrior.”
She wrote these in her journal, not as a checklist, but as a reminder that godly love grows from godly soil.
Knowing Intentions
A few months later, she met Daniel at a small-group Bible study. He was friendly, thoughtful, and easy to talk to. But Ella had learned not to rush. Instead, she watched.
Not in suspicion — but in discernment.
She noticed:
- He served without being asked.
- He listened more than he spoke.
- He honored boundaries.
- He didn’t pressure her for attention or affection.
- He was consistent — the same in public and private.
One evening, after helping clean up after a church event, Daniel walked her to her car.
“I enjoy spending time with you,” he said gently. “But I want to be clear — my intention is to pursue something meaningful, not casual. I want to honor God in how I get to know you.”
Ella felt peace — not butterflies, not confusion, not anxiety.
Peace.
The kind Scripture says is a sign of God’s leading.
Wasting No Time
Ella remembered the years she spent trying to “fix” relationships God never sent. This time, she chose differently.
She asked real questions.
She paid attention to red flags.
She didn’t ignore the Holy Spirit’s nudges.
She didn’t try to force compatibility.
And Daniel didn’t waste her time either. He was intentional, prayerful, and honest about his goals. He didn’t play games. He didn’t disappear and reappear. He didn’t confuse her.
Instead, he prayed with her.
He asked about her dreams.
He respected her boundaries.
He sought counsel from his pastor.
He moved with purpose.
Ella realized something beautiful:
When someone is truly sent by God, clarity replaces confusion.
Wisdom Before Commitment
Months later, Ella sat again on her porch — the same place she once prayed for wisdom. But this time, she wasn’t asking God to reveal someone’s heart. She was thanking Him for doing exactly that.
She learned that choosing the right person wasn’t about finding perfection.
It was about finding someone who:
- Loved God more than they loved her
- Pursued her with honor
- Showed consistency, not chaos
- Brought peace, not pressure
- Walked in purpose, not pretense
Ella didn’t just choose Daniel.
She chose wisdom.
She chose discernment.
She chose God’s timing over her own.
And in doing so, she discovered that the right person isn’t found by accident — they’re recognized through wisdom.
